Each proper nation has its own national drink – and there is no doubt that when most people hear the word slivovice, they immediately think of Wallachia. But there is much more to learn about this magical drink, this wonderful medicinal potion, known affectionately to true connoisseurs as “plum drops”, “Wallachian penicillin” or “Wallachian ginseng”. And now you have a great opportunity to find out more. You can discover the Wallachian Kingdom accompanied by the heady aroma of good slivovice – by enrolling to study at the Faculty of Distilling and Slivovice Studies at the Wallachian Royal University and completing the course, which involves a series of tastings of fruit brandies according to your own selection. When you enroll, you will receive a record of study, and on your graduation you will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Slivovice Sciences – Spiritus Doctoris.

Options and prices:

The programme usually costs around 500 CZK per person (plus VAT) including staff and transport (around 25 km from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm). The minimum size of groups for this price is 10 people. The minimum price for the citizenship programme is 5000 CZK (plus VAT). Of course, as long as you pay this minimum price, we can run the programme for fewer than 10 people (even just one!).

The end price depends on the chosen activities, the number of participants and the length of the programme.

Rules for study at the Faculty of Distilling and Slivovice Studies, Wallachian Royal University

1. The Faculty of Distilling and Slivovice Studies at the Wallachian Royal University is open to anybody over the age of 18 regardless of colour, sex, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship, intelligence or maturity – provided that they are seriously interested in the history and present of distilling fruit brandies in Wallachia, provided that they are not non-drinkers, and provided that they take the student pledge.

2. You can apply to study at offices of the Wallachian Kingdom, at Distillery Land RUDOLF JELÍNEK in Vizovice, at selected participating restaurants and inns, or at the websites www.smarttourism.cz or www.rjelinek.cz. Regular attendance is not required. Studies are not subject to time limitations.

3. When you begin your studies, you receive a RECORD OF STUDY in which course credits are recorded, enabling you to take the examination and receive a ‘University Diploma’.

4. Studies take place at selected participating restaurants and inns under the supervision of experienced professors. You receive credits for tasting genuine fruit brandies and spirits made by RUDOLF JELÍNEK. You must always be able to tell which brandy or spirit you are drinking. The ‘examiner’ will then award you a credit and stamp your record of study.

5. You can take the examination when you have collected all of the credits. The exam is held at Distillery Land RUDOLF JELÍNEK in Vizovice. Information on the dates of exams is available from all of the places listed above. After passing the exam, each student receives a ‘University Diploma’ and the title ‘Spiritus Doctoris’ (SpDr.), a gift from RUDOLF JELÍNEK, and is entered in the draw for the main prize.

Physical conditions:	The Faculty of Distilling and Slivovice Studies at the Wallachian Royal University is open to anybody over the age of 18 regardless of colour, sex, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship, intelligence or maturity – provided that they are seriously interested in the history and present of distilling fruit brandies in Wallachia, provided that they are not non-drinkers, and provided that they take the student pledge. There is absolutely no requirement for physical fitness ;-)
Total time:	Usually 1-2 hours. The length can be adjusted to your needs.
Number of participants:	Usually from 25 to 50 people.
Wear, outfit:	Anybody interested in becoming a student – whether old or young, from nearby or far away – must be properly dressed. So remember: no ragged old trousers, torn T-shirts, or dirty old wellington boots. You have been warned!
Season:	365 days a year.
Weather:	If the event takes place inside, the weather is not important. Outdoor event cannot take place in bad weather.
When best to order::	The earlier the better – at least a few days in advance. In urgent cases we can usually respond within just a few hours; we’ll do all we can to meet your requirements.
Additional services/programmes:	In the 16 years we’ve been organizing these ceremonies, they’ve become a popular choice for parties and other events all around the region. Study can be combined with any other suitable activity or programme in the Wallachian Kingdom.
